Affect And Emotion In Human Computer Interaction

by Christian Peter, Affect And Emotion In Human Computer Interaction Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Affect And Emotion In Human Computer Interaction book, Affect and emotion play an important role in our everyday lives: They are present whatever we do, wherever we are, and wherever we go, without us being aware of them for much of the time. When it comes to interaction, be it with humans, technology, or humans via technology, we suddenly become more aware of emotion, either by seeing the other’s emotional expression, or by not getting an emotional response while anticipating one. Given this, it seems only sensible to explore affect and emotion in human-computer interaction, to investigate the underlying principles, to study the role they play, to develop methods to quantify them, and to finally build applications that make use of them. This is the research field for which, over ten years ago, Rosalind Picard coined the phrase "affective computing". The present book provides an account of the latest work on a variety of aspects related to affect and emotion in human-technology interaction. It covers theoretical issues, user experience and design aspects as well as sensing issues, and reports on a number of affective applications that have been developed in recent years.

Affective And Emotional Aspects Of Human Computer Interaction

by Maja Pivec, Affective And Emotional Aspects Of Human Computer Interaction Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Affective And Emotional Aspects Of Human Computer Interaction book, "The learning process can be seen as an emotional and personal experience that is addictive and motivates learners to proactive behaviour. New research methods in this field are related to affective and emotional approaches to computer-supported learning and human-computer interactions. The major topics discussed are emotions, motivation, games and game-experience. The book is divided in three parts, part I, Game-based Learning, reflects upon the two-way interaction between game and student, thus enabling the game to react to the student's emotional state. Having the possibility to detect and steer the emotional state of the student could have a positive impact on using digital games in education. It is claimed that some commercial computer games increase cognitive skills and may enhance multitasking abilities and the participants' general ability to learn. Part II, Motivation and Learning, analyses whether the absence or presence of social and personal cues in the communication between a tutor and his or her students influence students' learning and their satisfaction with the tutor and the course. The research showed that not all types of personal information are equally important and possibly pictorial information is more important than audible information. Part III, Emotions and Emotional Agents, discusses the production of learning environments which enhance the learner's self esteem, ensure that the learner's best interests are respected through paying attention to the narrative structures of the learner's experience, and the ways in which communication can be enhanced through empathy with the learner."

The Human Face Of Ambient Intelligence

by Simon Elias Bibri, The Human Face Of Ambient Intelligence Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Human Face Of Ambient Intelligence book, As a socially disruptive technology, Ambient Intelligence is ultimately directed towards humans and targeted at the mundane life made of an infinite richness of circumstances that cannot fully be considered and easily be anticipated. Most books, however, focus their analysis on, or deal largely with, the advancement of the technology and its potential only. This book offers a fresh, up–to–date, and holistic approach to Ambient Intelligence. As such, it addresses the interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary aspects of the rapidly evolving field of Ambient Intelligence by seamlessly integrating and fusing it with artificial intelligence, cognitive science and psychology, social sciences, and humanities. It is divided into two main parts: Part 1 is about different permutations of enabling technologies as well as core computational capabilities, namely context awareness, implicit and natural interaction, and intelligent behavior. It details the existing and upcoming prerequisite technologies, and elucidates the application and convergence of major current and future computing trends. Part 2 is an accessible review and synthesis of the latest research in the human-directed sciences and computing and how these are intricately interrelated in the realm of Ambient Intelligence. It deals with the state–of–the–art human–inspired applications which show human-like understanding and exhibit intelligent behavior in relation to a variety of aspects of human functioning – states and processes. It describes and elaborates on the rich potential of Ambient Intelligence from a variety of interrelated perspectives and the plethora of challenges and bottlenecks involved in making Ambient Intelligence a reality, and also discusses the established knowledge and recent discoveries in the human–directed sciences and their application and convergence in the ambit of Ambient Intelligence computing. This seminal reference work is the most comprehensive of its kind, and will prove invaluable to students, researchers, and professionals across both computing and the human-directed sciences.

The Human Dimensions Of Human Computer Interaction

by E. McKay, The Human Dimensions Of Human Computer Interaction Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Human Dimensions Of Human Computer Interaction book, The Human-Dimensions of Human-Computer Interaction commences a non-technical discussion about everyday computer usage and deals with the human-dimension or social context of effective HCI. It brings forward many of the hidden complexities of the human-dimensions of HCI, and owes to the educative nature of the techno-saga. The first three chapters are designed to set the background for the duality of the human/machine dimensions of HCI. Chapter four leaves the machine-side of the techno-saga to re-enter the usability context. Consequently, in this chapter people’s techno-interactions are combined with the machine-side of the HCI equation to evaluate effective solutions that try to achieve techno-satisfying outcomes. While it still maintains the human side, chapter five covers cognitive performance. Chapter six becomes quite demonstrative, drawing away from the more usual linguistics to speak to the reader through a series of metaphorical human-dimensioned HCI models. Chapter seven brings the reader back to earth to concentrate again on the human-side of the HCI equation; this time to speak about expectations that people have in seeking techno-solutions to everyday issues. Chapter eight returns the focus to the machine-side; emphasizing that a balanced approach is necessary for achieving effective HCI, as this book would not be complete without a section for dealing with gender and how it relates, if at all, to HCI.
