by Roy C. Major, Foreign Accent Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Foreign Accent book, Even though second-language learners may master the grammar and vocabulary of the new languages, they almost never achieve a native phonology (accent). Scholars and professionals dealing with second-language learners would agree that this is one of the most persistent challenges they face. Now, for the first time, Roy Major's Foreign Accent covers the exploding scholarship in this area and lays out the issues specifically for audiences in the second language acquisition and applied linguistics community.
by Jette G. Hansen Edwards, Phonology And Second Language Acquisition Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Phonology And Second Language Acquisition book, This volume is a collection of 13 chapters, each devoted to a particular issue that is crucial to our understanding of the way learners acquire, learn, and use an L2 sound system. In addition, it spans both theory and application in L2 phonology. The book is divided into three parts, with each section unified by broad thematic content: Part I, Theoretical Issues and Frameworks in L2 Phonology, lays the groundwork for examining L2 phonological acquisition. Part II, Second Language Speech Perception and Production, examines these two aspects of L2 speech in more detail. Finally, Part III, Technology, Training, and Curriculum, bridges the gap between theory and practice. Each chapter examines theoretical frameworks, major research findings (both classic and recent), methodological issues and choices for conducting research in a particular area of L2 phonology, and major implications of the research findings for more general models of language acquisition and/or pedagogy.
by Christina Bouwmeester, Dritte Fremdsprache Spanisch Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format.
by Alene Moyer, Age Accent And Experience In Second Language Acquisition Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Age Accent And Experience In Second Language Acquisition book, This work critically addresses the age debate in second language acquisition studies, presenting an in-depth study of factors that predict foreign accent. Quantitative and qualitative analyses confirm that cognitive, social, and psychological factors contribute to attainment, and that biological influences must therefore be considered alongside these essential aspects of learner experience.

by , Transfer And Interference In Language Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Transfer And Interference In Language book, The topic of this bibliography in its broadest sense is the subject of a wide range of academic disciplines. Given these circumstances, the particular associations and connotations of the terms ‘transfer’ and ‘interference’ in each of these areas are legion, with resultant differences in meaning in the disparate literature on these subjects. And yet it is, in one way or another, contact and interaction of languages in the speaker/hearer and learner, in language acquisition contexts, as well as in society in general, which is basic to these two concepts throughout the various disciplines. The discovery of this basic unitary notion is surely one of the reasons for the new interest in these phenomena. In light of all this, a bibliography cannot at present avoid being highly/ selective in order to demarcate an interdisciplinary area of research in its own right and with its own status. The establishment of such an area is one of our main aims. The focus of interest in this bibliography, admittedly, is directed towards the psycholinguistics of language contact and interaction.
by Michael A. Watkins, Recent Research In Second Language Phonetics Phonology Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Recent Research In Second Language Phonetics Phonology book, Recent Research in Second Language Phonetics/Phonology: Perception and Production reports the findings of seventeen interphonology studies on perception/production of sounds by different first language speakers. All the papers describe careful empirical research, and as such will be of great interest to anyone working, or intending to work, in the specific field of second language phonological acquisition. However, given that speech production and perception are highly complex skills, the research findings in this volume will also be relevant to those with a broader interest in language learning or cognition in general.

by Biljana Čubrović, Exploring English Phonetics Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Exploring English Phonetics book, Exploring English Phonetics is conceived as a meeting point of the diverse perspectives, approaches and interests of scholars working in the field of English Phonetics worldwide. The focus of the volume is on the topics in the domain of language varieties, mutual language influences, and also on issues pertaining to the research, study, and teaching of English to speakers from other language backgrounds. Authors raise a number of novel, motivating and noteworthy questions, relevant from the point of view of either phonetic research or phonetic training and EFL teaching. These questions cover a wide range of phonetic topics: the nature of vowels and consonants in several dominating varieties of English, the phenomena of connected speech and the nature of intonation, issues in the methodology of phonetic research, problems encountered by speakers of other languages striving to acquire English pronunciation, and attitudes to different native and non-native varieties of English. Despite such a broad variety of topics, the volume offers a unifying approach to the study of speech and puts forward intriguing results gained by original research. Whatever their focus and sample size, most chapters deal with the English spoken and learned by speakers of other languages, thus highlighting both the current status of English as the language of global communication, and the international orientation of this volume.
