Download Managing Diversity And Equality In Construction book, With women in the UK construction industry constituting just thirteen per cent of the workforce and black and Asian workers numbering less that two per cent, despite representing more than six per cent of the working population, diversity is a problem that the construction industry needs to tackle directly. In this title, diversity management is presented as an opportunity for the construction industry. Work is presented from several different countries and regions, in North America, Australia and Europe to provide a comprehensive picture of this complex and often sensitive issue. Going beyond the traditional topics of gender and racial discrimination contributions encompass a wide range of diversity issues facing the construction industry, including sexual orientation, disability and the work-life balance. Essential reading for construction managers and a valuable resource for post-graduate researchers, this key title provides not only a thorough exposition of contemporary research but also supplies the practical diagnostic tools, and techniques to successfully manage diversity in construction and the information to adhere to the law.
by Sue Westwood, Ageing Diversity And Equality Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Ageing Diversity And Equality book, Current understandings of ageing and diversity are impoverished in three main ways. Firstly, with regards to thinking about what inequalities operate in later life there has been an excessive preoccupation with economic resources. On the other hand, less attention has been paid to cultural norms and values, other resources, wider social processes, political participation and community engagement. Secondly, in terms of thinking about the 'who' of inequality, this has so far been limited to a very narrow range of minority populations. Finally, when considering the 'how' of inequality, social gerontology's theoretical analyses remain under-developed. The overall effect of these issues is that social gerontology remains deeply embedded in normative assumptions which serve to exclude a wide range of older people. Ageing, Diversity and Equalityaims to challenge and provoke the above described normativity and offer an alternative approach which highlights the heterogeneity and diversity of ageing, associated inequalities and their intersections. by Sue Unerman, Belonging Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Belonging book, "The most important business book of the year" - Esquire There's never been more discussion around diversity and inclusion in the workplace. From gender pay gaps and the #MeToo movement to Black Lives Matter, it seems that every organization has finally recognised that lasting change needs to happen. Various studies show that the most successful and productive senior management teams are those which are truly diverse and eclectic. Yet there remains only 8 female CEOs of FTSE 100 boards, and only 10 BAME people working in leadership roles across companies in the FTSE 100. While there has been a clear shift in attitudes, actual progress towards more inclusive workspaces has been excruciatingly slow and, in some cases, has grinded to a halt. Following extensive research and interviews at over 200 international businesses, Kathryn Jacob, Sue Unerman and Mark Edwards have discovered one major problem that is holding back the move towards greater diversity: why aren't the men getting involved? Most men are not engaged with D&I initiatives in the workplace – at one extreme they may be feeling actively hostile and threatened by the changing cultural landscape. But others may be unmotivated to change – recognising the abstract benefits of diversity but not realising what's in it for them. Built upon this seemingly counterintuitive approach of bringing men into the conversation, Belonging is an accessible and comprehensive guide to achieving diversity that lasts.
by Mercy Njiru, Diversity And Equality At Work Opportunities And Challenges Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Diversity And Equality At Work Opportunities And Challenges book, Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2014 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, , language: English, abstract: This paper defines diversity and equality in the context of workplace and describes associated opportunities and challenges. The two aspects of equality and diversity in the workplace are multifaceted and they include more than just embracing the dissimilarities amongst individuals and the equality elements protecting particular individuals from racial, ethnic, sexual orientation, disability, religion, gender, and age factors. Diversity in the workplace refers to recognizing, understanding, consenting, appreciating, and celebrating the dissimilarities amongst individuals with respect to their age, social class, culture, sex, capability, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and religion. Globalization is always advancing, thus requiring more collaboration and communication among individuals from various beliefs, cultures, and backgrounds than before. Currently, individuals do not live and work in a parochial market; instead, they are part of a global economy that is facing competition from about every continent. Thus, organizations require diversity in order to become more innovative and receptive to change. According to Esty, Richard, and Marcie (1995), exploiting and making the most out of diversity in the workplace has become an imperative issue for organizational management today. Equality in the workplace is about impartiality or fairness and giving every individual a chance to participate in organizational development, and the opportunity to accomplish their potential. The Society for Human Resource Management (1998) holds that equality comes about through eliminating prejudice and discrimination. Equality reinforces accomplishment in the workplace since it goes further than just providing equal opportunities for all. It includes a promise to providing every individual with services that are of equal value to all, and understanding that this could mean providing different services to different individuals in order to accommodate their diverse needs.

Özbilgin is a fascinating and useful collection of articles that cover varied perspectives on this thriving topic. Theoretical issues and policy problems, equal opportunity and diversity management, sociological and psychological approaches, history and present management and trade union efforts, and much more are all covered. I particularly appreciated the inclusion of several articles on men, masculinities, equality and diversity, a refreshing recognition of the importance of men and masculinities in the success or failure of equality and diversity efforts. Although the collection covers the UK in the most detail, chapters on the US, Germany, South Africa, and Japan provide a multinational perspective. by Avigail Eisenberg, Diversity And Equality Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Diversity And Equality book, The tension between diversity and equality is central to debates about multiculturalism, self-determination, identity, and pluralism. How, for example, can the claims of ethnic and religious groups be respected when they conflict with individual rights and liberal equality? Diversity and Equality critically examines the challenge of protecting rights in diverse societies such as Canada. It develops new approaches in philosophy, law, politics, and anthropology to address the goals and problems associated with cultural, religious, and national minority rights. The contributors to this volume explore the conflicts between group demands for cultural autonomy and individual assertions of basic interests. At stake in these debates about rights and autonomy in multicultural and multinational democracies is the very meaning of freedom.
